The Scotwork Negotiation Training Difference

Scotwork specialises in improving negotiating skills: permanently, measurably and consistently. The most effective means of achieving this is our intensive Advanced Negotiating Skills training program. The Scotwork Program differs from most other courses in a number of important ways:

Skills coaching - not lecturing

The most outstanding characteristic of the Scotwork Advanced Negotiating Skills course is the fact that the majority of time is spent on practical skills coaching and skills development. Like our competitors, we teach how to prepare for a negotiation and explain negotiating techniques. Where Scotwork excels is in coaching the effective application of these techniques. The Scotwork negotiation training course comprises around 22 hours of live negotiating practise, out of a total of 28 hours of training.

Working in teams, up to 12 course participants undertake a series of live negotiating exercises, which are video recorded and then reviewed by the two course tutors. It takes exceptional aptitude and experience for a tutor to be able to analyse the negotiation in real time, identify the negotiating lessons and immediately feed these back to the participants, while linking the lessons to their real-world business environment. The participant to tutor ratio of 6 to 1 allows each individual to receive personal attention, resulting in optimal skills development and a measurable improvement in performance.

Experienced negotiators - not trainers

All of our consultants are senior business professionals and bring extensive real-world negotiating experience to the course. They are able to give clear guidance in novel situations and will approach and tailor the concepts to suit the particular group.

Measurable results - not promises

Tape Measure

A number of other training providers have begun to 'sell' their programs with the promise of delivering measurable results, yet remain coy about how these will be delivered. For over 15 years now, Scotwork has conducted a systematic and rigorous assessment of the effectiveness of its training. All course participants are surveyed three months after attending the program to ensure the training has been effective. For data on these surveys and an analysis of the Return on Investment that Scotwork training has delivered for our clients, have a look at  What Our Clients Say.

Customised to your requirements

Our course is optimised to produce the most effective results, but within this framework we tailor the package to address the needs of the client and the audience.
We spend time getting to understand your business so that specific, relevant advice and feedback can be given to the participants in the video feedback sessions. We work with our clients to ensure that the training is integrated into your management processes.

Original thinking : Validated in the real world

The course does not borrow from the work of others and, as a result, the program has a simplicity and consistency often missing from other courses.

The concepts underpinning the Scotwork Programs were developed entirely through rigorous observation and analysis of real-world negotiation practice. Our understanding and knowledge of the negotiation process is continuously being tested and refined by the 'real world' experience of our tutors and the approximately 10,000 participants who attend the Program each year around the world. In this way, the Program reflects the accumulated experience and understanding of negotiators across t he globe in all forms of industry and service.

Quality and Consistency

Scotwork maintains rigorous quality monitoring systems appropriate for an intensive and dynamic management skills course. This is your guarantee of quality and consistency, no matter which Scotwork tutors lead the course or where and when it is run. We pride ourselves on meeting our high standards week in and week out, on courses run around the world.
