John McMillan - Senior Partner - Scotwork

John is the founder of Scotwork and the creator of the Scotwork Negotiating Skills courses.

After graduating with a degree in International Marketing and Economics, John initially pursued a career as an industrial sales engineer.  This job involved both management/union negotiating and negotiating large commercial contracts.  Although he received excellent sales training, John was never taught how to negotiate.  After a spell working in London for an outsource contractor, John returned to Scotland in 1975 to set up Scotwork. 

Building on an academic study of union negotiating and his own personal experience, John created what was to be the UK's, and many say the world's, first course teaching the skills of negotiation, as opposed to the theory.

John continued to lead the UK business, delivering hands-on training and negotiating consultancy, right up until 2000 when he handed on the reins to his long-term business partner, Stephen White.  John then moved to the USA where he established Scotwork North America in the world's most competitive training market.

Returning to the UK in 2005, John then took on the task of developing the international network of 35 Scotwork offices, improving the quality of consultant development, as well as continuing to extend the range of Scotwork Negotiating Skills Development courses.

John now restricts his client engagements to advising on large scale strategic negotiations.
